The Saudi weightlifting team was crowned in first place at the Asian Championship in the junior category in the championship held in the Qatari capital Doha, after gathering 575 points to top the championship’s teams; the event concluded this evening with the participation of more than 290 lifters representing 22 Asian countries.
The youth team took third place at the Asian Championship in the youth category after gathering 594 points, and the Saudi champions were crowned in the presence of the president of the International Weightlifting Federation Mohammed Jalood, the president of the Asian federation Mohammed Youssef Al-Mane, and Mohammed Al-Harbi, secretary-general of the Asian federation and president of the Saudi Weightlifting Federation.
The Greens’ coronation came after their lifters won 10 medals: lifter Mohammed Al-Zouri was crowned with the clean-and-jerk gold and the total bronze; lifter Aqeel Al-Jasim took two medals, a silver and a bronze; Abdullah Al-Muhaimid won 3 bronze medals; and Youssef Al-Mudarham and Mohammed Al-Halio each won a bronze medal.
The championship was not content with the great superiority of the Saudi champions, for the championship competitions also witnessed the participation of Saudi referee Reem Hazazi as the first Saudi female referee to take part in the championship competitions, alongside the other Saudi referee Ahmed Al-Qathami and Dr. Fadel Al-Daboos as part of the championship’s medical staff, while the Saudi weight officials had their presence and the organising committee’s accreditation in loading the weights for all the championship’s men’s and women’s competitions.
